This is a remote position. About the Role: We’re looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to help us organize, reconcile, and update our financial records for the past several years. This role involves reviewing historical data, ensuring accuracy, and bringing all bookkeeping up to date to reflect the true financial position of the business. If you’re detail-oriented, love untangling numbers, and have experience cleaning up books for small to mid-sized businesses, we’d love to have you onboard! Key Responsibilities: • Review and organize several years’ worth of financial transactions. • Reconcile bank, credit card, and payment processor statements. • Classify and categorize historical income and expenses accurately. • Identify discrepancies and correct errors in prior records. • Work with the CEO to gather missing documents and clarify unclear transactions. • Prepare accurate financial reports once all records are up to date. • Set up proper bookkeeping processes for ongoing maintenance and reporting. Requirements Qualifications: • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or Accounting Specialist, ideally with experience in historical or catch-up bookkeeping projects. • Strong proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar). • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills. • Ability to work independently and manage large volumes of historical data. • Strong communication skills — comfortable asking clarifying questions when needed. • Familiarity with e-commerce or retail businesses (a plus). Preferred Skills: • Experience reconciling multi-year financial data. • Knowledge of U.S. bookkeeping standards. • Understanding of sales tax and expense categorization. • Ability to create processes that simplify ongoing bookkeeping.
