Community Injury Prevention Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY The Injury Prevention Coordinator, under the direction of the Director and Trauma Program Manager, is responsible for injury prevention and public educational programs that focus on the application of injury control and prevention principles to improve trauma care within the communities served by Aspirus St. Luke#s Hospital. The position is accountable for researching, designing, coordinating, implementing, and maintaining injury prevention programs and monitoring their quality and effectiveness. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor#s degree in Community Health, Health Education, Wellness, Health Promotion, or related field. Experience: Experience working with injury prevention, community program development, outreach, or education. Licensure/Certification/Registration: BLS Certification with a designation of either BLS Provider or Healthcare Provider from either the American Heart Association, American Red Cross or Military Training Network. Completion of Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) certification required within six (6) months and CPST Instructor certification within two (2) years of hire into this position. Driver#s License Required: A valid MN or WI driver#s license PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: Master#s Degree Experience: Prior involvement with Community Outreach, Injury Prevention, or program coordination. Experience in grant writing and program evaluation. Licensure/Certification/Registration: CPST or CPST-Instructor KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES knowledge of local laws and legislation related to injury prevention. Knowledge of program planning, including needs assessment, content development and evaluation. Knowledge of the healthcare industry in general.# Ability to work independently and/or cooperatively to meet deadlines; extensive ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide variety of individuals and groups within the hospital and community setting in a professional, courteous and tactful manner.# Ability to accurately communicate concepts and facts; ability to understand and follow complex oral and written communications.# Ability to develop educational and promotional materials for a variety of audiences; ability to maintain records and prepare reports as needed; ability to perform duties accurately and efficiently.# Ability to travel throughout the region as needed.# Ability to exercise good professional judgment and accept personal responsibility.# Ability to manage time wisely and organize and set priorities.# Ability to positively represent the department, as well as Aspirus St. Luke#s. # READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. SPEAKING - Intermediate: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Basic Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10#s and 100#s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
